The item consists of a printed circuit board with layout and schematic diagram, to help you design your active (op-amp based) continuous-time analogue RC filters. The layout is flexible and can accomodate two independent filters of up to 4th order, or a single filter of up to 8th order. The user may determine the component values they require using their favourite filter design software. Alternatively, download the free filter design software supplied by TEXAS INSTRUEMENTS (FilterPro). The filter realization used is Sallen and Key, with the option of having unity gain, or greater than unity gain per stage. Classic Butterworth, Chebyshev, Bessel or linear phase filters may be realized in low-pass, band-pass, band-stop or high-pass configurations. However, band-pass or band-stop filters of the narrow band type are not catered for. Only band-pass and band-stop using cascaded high-pass and low-pass sections are accomodated. The filter is designed around a quad op-amp in the standard 14-pin TSSOP package configuration, e.g. AD8674ARUZ is recommended (see ANALOG DEVICES website for datasheet). In addition to the active filters, up to 4 passive first order "roofing" filters may be employed to cope with frequency components beyond the bandwidth capability of the op-amp chosen. In addition to the schematic and layout diagrams, a design guide is provided with design examples for dual 4th order Chebyshev and 8th order Butterworth low-pass filters. The design guide includes tips on how to improve the cut-off frequency and pole-pair 'Q' accuracy beyond that which could normally be obtained with standard 5% accuracy multi-layer SMT capacitors. To take advantage of these tips you will need an RLC meter to measure the actual values of the capacitors.
This PCB is to full industrial standard and has a RoHS compliant HASSL finish, which has a good shelf life and can take leaded components if necessary. The PCB takes 0805 size passive components.
