The FCO brake motor utilizes a fail safe braking principle : when motor is ON the brake is released.
The brake is released using a DC electromagnet. When the motor is switched on, the electromagnet attracts an armature/lined brake ring compressing the spring and releasing the brake.
DC voltage is supplied by the rectifier bridge located in the motor terminal box.
The brake is actuated when the power of the motor is OFF, the magnetic field holding the brake collapses and the spring moves the armature/lined brake ring assembly to apply pressure on the brake disc, stopping shaft rotation.
For an operating factor of 40% Frame 56 - 143 : 900 starts per hour
