USB FT2232 Dual Channel Development Board
The USBDEV1 is a development platform for USB product and software development using the FTDI (http:// ) FT2232C Dual Channel USB Interface chip. This third generation USB I/O chip provides the fastest, lowest cost route to USB interfaced product development on the market we have found. Its low cost and low support component count make it an excellent choice for creating USB enabled products. It features a highly flexible serial/parallel interface and royalty free software drivers for Windows and Linux based systems. This wide range of interface capabilities include:
* Dual UARTs for RS-232 and RS485 asynchronous serial protocols
* Advanced synchronous serial interface for SPI, I2C, JTAG or custom protocols
* Dual 8 bit parallel FIFO interface mode
* Dual 8 bit asynchronous and synchronous Bit-Bang parallel interface
* An 8bit (extendable to16bit via the second channel) parallel CPU style interface with handshaking
* 1 FTDI FT2232C USB interface chip 93LC46 Serial EEPROM for device customization
* 6MHz Ceramic resonator with internal capacitors
* Micrel MIC2075 USB Power control chip
* 3.3V LDO Regulator Power indicator LEDs Power Switch Fault / Overload Indicator
* 2 2x12 0.100 Vertical Headers
* Low profile, compact Mini-B USB connector
The standard dual row 0.100 headers allow for easier probing and logic analyzer connection than some other DIP based evaluation devices. It also allows connection to a target device either on a daughter card or by ribbon cable. It is designed primarily for USB bus powered applications, but an on-board jumper and USB controlled power switch will allow the use of external power provided from the userÂ’s circuit.
Headers P1 and P2 bring out all the IO for one of the USB channels as well as power and ground. Header P1 also brings out the FT2232C VCCIO pin for remote programming of the FTDI device IO voltage (3.3V or 5.0V) by the end device. The header arrangement provides for interleaving of the signal and power or ground signals for lower crosstalk.
The on-board EEPROM allows the user to program the FT2232C operating modes as well as provide serialization and user specific Product Ids (PID) and device descriptions. This is done through FTDIÂ’s MPROG utility found on the FTDI web site.
The on-board 3.3V LDO linear regulator is provided to power 3.3V devices and to program the FT2232C IO pins for 3.3V operation.
