Here is a complete miniature unit, not just a bare module. It is a small, light duty, low power type thermoelectric peltier module with heatsink and fan. It looks great and would be useful for experiment, research, or demonstration. One sample was tested and it worked great! It draws about 2 amps only at 12 volts DC, and about 0.8 amps only at 5 volts DC. Therefore, it is not suitable to cool latest high power CPUs, but it loads much less burden on the power supply, compared to other common types that consume too much current and may dangerously overload the computer powersupply. Even with 5 volts DC, the chilling action is very obvious and may be perceived by touching the cold side, immediately after power on. It has a copper face on the cooling side for better thermal attachment with the CPU, compared to other common types that have a ceramic surface to mate with the CPU. The peltier module is about 30 MM x 30 MM x 3 MM. The fan is about 40 MM x 40 MM x 20 MM. The entire unit is overall about 60 MM x 60 MM x 30 MM.
For normal operation, connect positive DC supply to the red wire, and negative DC supply to the black wire of the cooler module. If the connection is reversed or AC is applied then the cooler would work as a heater and may get damaged. The fan also should not be reverse connected or given AC voltage to avoid damage. The cooler module should not get more than 12 volts DC. The fan may be run separately at 12 to 18 volts DC.
It may also be used to demonstrate the SEEBECK EFFECT by generation of electricity from a heat source such as solar energy, but it should not be heated above the water boiling temperature to avoid damage. It may also be used as a passive sensor to produce an electrical voltage output according to the difference in temperature between the two sides of the thermoelectric module.
